I have had success with this before, but only with Mojave, so I can confirm that Mojave works too, except for the Web Drivers which kinda sucks, which is why I reinstalled Sierra! So why not High Sierra? Well, I tried High Sierra, and I greatly disliked it, first of, the operating system was buggy at the time and still is. Check out the Krazy Ken video on it, won't leave any links because I don't know how the rules work for that, anyways!
These are the specs! Some of these aren't exact, because it's been a while since I first built this computer!
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170 Gaming K3
Hard Drive: Some Toshiba 1TB drive!
RAM: 8 GB 2666MHZ
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti
CPU: Intel Core i5 6500
Network Card: Integrated
Audio: Integrated
I think those are all the components I need to specify. I did not put stuff like the PSU and the case because like it doesn't affect performance!
So how well does it work?
I have installed Sierra a ton of times, but not because of the system being unstable or something, just needed a reinstall!
Keep in mind that the system is installed on an external drive because macOS didn't want to format my partition which had windows on it, didn't want to do it, it has 8.1 btw.
It performs very well, all the USB ports work, all my Razer gear works, last time I did this, I didn't have a microphone! Siri works perfectly, I have not yet tested iMessage or programs like that because I don't use em at all.
Programs like Photoshop, Audition, iMovie, Final Cut Pro X and Office 365 works better than ever! The only issues I've ever had with it, is that when I put it to sleep or it does it automatically, when I try to wake it up, I get a black screen! Then I have to restart and when it starts again, it gives me the gray screen and the power button screen.
However that was easy to fix, just insert the flag 'Darkwake=0' and it works!
So how did I do the install? Well, since I don't have access to a real mac, I guess you could say that I pirated it, basically, I found the installer online which was a .dmg file with clover already installed, but it was a clean version of macOS with clover, it was slightly old. But I can promise that it works exactly the same if you would make the USB yourself!
Then I booted from it, once done, I didn't really know what commands I needed so I just put in some commands that I thought was going to work without even trying to boot, and those were 'npci=0x3000, darkwake=0' and those were that! I used to use cpus=1 but I found out that it was unnecessary.
Once inside the installer, I tried to format my main drive, and it didn't work (but that was probably the drive (or the partitions fault)
Then I took a part of the install USB as the boot drive! It was 400 GB so it was big enough for me, remember, this is only my second os, I use Windows for most things!
Once done, I installed on the partition and that was it, installation was quite quick on USB 3.0! I then clicked reboot, and booted from the USB again. I then selected the boot drive and booted with the same commands as I used before, and like that, I was on the setup screen, I put in all my info and I was on the desktop.
Then was the Post-Install! Post install was incredibly easy, as I used Ethernet, and the drivers didn't need to be installed, Ethernet worked out of the box right away. Really grateful about that.
The only two things that didn't work out of the box was Audio drivers, and NVIDIA Web Drivers! (And if you would install on the main drive without the macOS Installer disk) the bootloader.
I quickly installed those and rebooted, and boom, the full system was ready, I then installed my software and customized it to my liking!
and I couldn't have been more happy about the outcome, the hardware is very macOS friendly. and actually, the only boot command I think would be needed is probably darkwake and even that is not required to boot the system.
So sorry if this post was bad, which is probably is, and it is my first post here on Tonymacx86!
Before I leave you, I used the SMBIOS 'iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)' If you have any questions, please post them here!
Thanks for reading, bye!
